Do we have an update of how many classifications we have now?

I am unaware of any checkpointing issues with SubsetSum. All of my Android devices are dedicated crunchers and I check on them only rarely because on occasion WUprop will sometimes hang necessitating a suspension and resumption of the work unit. Because of this, I never experienced any issues on the OET1 work at WCG that so many others did. Wish I could be of more help.

No worries Skivelitis2. I assumed as much. Hopefully CSG would be able to get SubsetSum working on 5.0+ devices. Since these are relatively small and stable work units they would be perfect for an Android OS.

5.0+ for SubsetSum would be a welcome addition. As far as DNA goes, during the last batch I noticed upload files approaching 20mb on some workunits. Unless one has an unlimited data plan.......

Hi Skivelitis2,

I actually would be one of those lucky people ;)

But if I had to choose which one to prioritize then it would be Subsetsum first. It is a pretty stable work unit as I can see from my old Samsung table and it rarely errors out. Do you know if check pointing would be an issue? The only reason I ask is that I am currently using my 5.0+ device to crunch for World Community Grid and one of the issue was that if I stopped my device (aka use it) then the progress can sometimes be reset back to 20% from 50% (extreme case, but it happened).

Would this sort of issue also be present in SubsetSum? I have not been able to see this on my Samsung table, however I also use it pretty exclusively for BOINC projects.

Hi Travis.

I think getting at least the subsetsum work units working on android devices version 5.0+ would be a good idea. I am sure a lot of members here would be able to donate a lot more to that project using their android devices. SubsetSum is very stable (my experience from running it on my android tablet with version 4.0) and rarely if ever fails.

I hope same can be done with DNA@home work units, however from what I read in the forum posts the issue would be with the amount of RAM these units take. If at all possible I would definitely help with running beta units :)

This is just my opinion and hopefully others would be able to mention their priority ideas.

I am guessing the issue with Android version 5+ is still there.

Hello everyone,

I am a recent cruncher on CSG, however i was wondering if eventually CSG would accept other projects to use cpu cycles for just like Subset@Home or DNA@Home in the future.

I guess I am wondering if it would be something akin to World Community Grid or will be mainly focus on Subset, DNA, Wildlife projects. The Climate tweets project is what made me thing if CSG would be accepting other projects if they come in the future to the ones they are already supporting.

Same here. 5+ version does not work, however 4 version does on my android table.

Hi everyone,

Are there any plans to try to do beta units to see if subset can now be run on android version 5.0 +?

Hello,

Just trying to see if any work is planned on the horizon or if we should expect it to be sometime far in the future.

Thank you :)

Hi Travis,

I have also noticed that another android device is also having issues. Its a sony experiaAndroid 3.4.0-perf-g47adf36 (Android 5.0.2).

If it is an OS version issue are there plans to test work units that would work with version 5.0.x?

Thanks

Hello,

I have two android devices that I am using to crunch for Citizen Science. One of them has no issues while the other one keeps receiving error messages:

Phone Details:

Product Name: HTC HTC One_M8 - SDK:21 ABI: armeabi-v7a
Operating System: Android 3.4.0-gadd5817 (Android 5.0.1)
BOINC version: 7.4.41

A total of 58 tasks were sent to this device and all of them got an error. This was one of the workunits that got an error:

subset_sum_52_27_50049760113870_1
Work unit: 2200362
Exit Status: 1 (0x1) Unknown error number

Has anyone faced an issue like this before? My thought is that it could be that maybe its the OS version that is causing the issues because the other device has Android
3.0.31-1498778 (Android 4.4.2) version and seems to have no problems crunching work units.

Thank you for your help.[/u]

That clears it up. I guess I should have went and looked at the instruction page :(

It seemed however that both of those links have worked and now I am crunching work units.

Thank you for your clarification.

Sorry about that! Hopefully they'll fix the BOINC manager link.

No worries :) Thank you for your prompt response to this.

I have actually found out the solution for anyone that is having the same issue.

When joining from the boinc project page if you have this url:

http://csgrid.org

It will give you the error I mentioned above. Copy and paste this url instead and it should work.

http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/csg/

If found that URL from the Project list avaliable on BOINC:

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Project_list#Citizen_Science_Grid

Hello all,

I receive the following error when I try to add the project to my BOINC client:

"Project not found. The URL you supplied is not that of BOINC-based project. Please check the URL and try again".

Has anyone experienced this? I was able to attached it a couple of months ago, but stopped contributing so wanted to re-attach this project.

Thank you

Hello all,

I am a new cruncher for the DNA@Home project through Citizen Science Grid. I am not sure if this topic was discussed on this forums, but I was not able to find out if the work units produced work faster on a Linux OS (ex Ubuntu) or on a Windows OS.

Thank you for your information in advance.
