1) Message boards : Webpage and Application Code Discussion : Excessive credit? (Message 7385)

Travis:

I, for one, am grateful to have a project administrator paying attention and making needed changes to this active project. That sounds like a lot of crazy work for the end of a semester. I'm sure working together, we will continue to improve the science and technicals.

Hope you have a happy holiday season.
2) Message boards : Webpage and Application Code Discussion : Excessive credit? (Message 7377)
Posted 12 Dec 2017 by DJStarfox
The credit system only works if the baseline metric is the same (or similar) as all other projects. When one project grants significantly less or more credit than other projects, it creates an unfairness that encourages other projects to defect. Granted credit would then vary wildly between projects for the same CPU/GPU. The end result is the invalidation of credit as a measurement of user contribution. (I.e., credits become meaningless without a standard metric/unit to compare against.)

In regards to my SETI comment earlier, back on the old credit system, SETI had a numeric scale for measuring work done that could be translated to other projects. I'm not familiar with how it's done now. Perhaps an expert at another project would be helpful for a consult? Or one of these technical guys:

I agree that RAC is too high compared to other projects. Typically, projects benchmark their workunits against the credit granted by a SETI@Home workunit.

I'm running BOINC 7.6.22. After detaching & attaching to this project, I cannot get the scheduler to respond normally. Everything is error HTTP 500.

I'm getting the same error for some time now. The scheduler appears to be broken. My boinc client cannot do anything with this project:

None of these work because:
version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

I have an older GLIBC version and cannot upgrade at this time.

Great photo! Where did you take this image (which beach)?

The photo was taken on Barefoot Beach near Naples, FL.

I don't have any specific questions yet, just wanted to share. :)
8) Message boards : Science : More WUs for DNA@Home on Windows (Message 5787)

I am getting this message every time BOINC requests more work:
Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress

Is this a hard-coded limit, or is something wrong with my system? I think I have 24 tasks in progress right now. (12 CPU box)

If you can get the "Workunits waiting for assimilation 1,892" number down, would that free up some disk space? I have the same issue uploading ("out of disk space") with all DNA workunits.

Your memory upgrade might be unstable--hardware problem. Burn to blank CD a program called MemTest. Then, boot into it, and let it run for 24 hours. There should be no errors. If there are, then you're memory is bad.

I'm interested in the status of the current research. I spotted a piping plover a few weeks ago while on a weekend trip to the beach. Such a cutie! I did report the sighting, as I recently learned they are endangered.
