Greetz SEARCHER

Are you talking about the tweet classifying page? It's updating for me just fine after I hit submit... are you still having the error?

Travis,

I just banged out a few hundred with the interface working correctly over the last 4 days. Now it's back to its dysfunctional state.

Perhaps you could hammer away for a few days to reach the apparent threshold?

Just wanted to let you all know that both Susan Felege and I found out yesterday our promotion and tenure was accepted by the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education! We wouldn't have been able to do it without your support, time, and CPU cycles, so we really appreciate it!

Wow! Congratulations!!

Workunits with a search id of 9 or 10 are running the larger CIFAR-10 dataset, and workunits with a search id of 11 or 12 are running the MNIST dataset.

Would be nice if we could select which ones to run. the larger ones slow my old Macbook to a crawl and running the GPU (for SETI) at the same time just locks it up totally.

I thank you.

On my Windows, Linux and OS X systems I'm getting the same results, so I hope this should fix those issues so I can get back to updating the assimilator and getting a steady flow of work going!

Let me know if you're having any issues.

This WU had three completions but no validation

As long as you keep credits well above what SETI is, you will keep volunteers busy and attract new people.

FWIW, I've long ago stopped caring about credit and others like me are only in it for the hours.

Hours: the New New Credit system.
6) Message boards : Webpage and Application Code Discussion : EXACT Convolutional Neural Network Trainer? (Message 6661)
Posted 10 Jan 2017 by Profile Steve Hawker*
Yup, EXACT is the new wildlife@home app.

Will you be purging the database of the old results? I've still got 26 "results" that are quite old. Also, do you need to show older apps on the applications list?

I know this will be low on your priority but those 26 just get in the way now.

Posted 23 Dec 2016 by Profile Steve Hawker*
Is there no checkpointing on the Linux workunits?

All the apps should be checkpointing. Are the linux apps not?

I ran the tasks until they were at least 5% complete and then suspended them.
I repeated this until all the tasks had some elapsed time.
I quit BOINC and restarted the computer
On restart, every task that was suspended lost all progress. When they came to run they would run for 34 seconds and then get postponed because BOINC couldn't get a slot lock (or similar unhelpful message). I abort the task at this point.

I've managed to get five WUs to complete. None have validated. I've logged just over 200 hours of crunching.

All were v0.05 on OS X

Travis said in the news section just the other day:

On another note, we finally have a new application to start sending new workunits out. I'm currently testing this on OSX, and once that's working I'll move on to linux and then windows. So there should be a slow trickle of workunits being released this week while I test things and get the new application and server side daemons up and running.

I would like to discuss the following trail cam image:

Refer to the two white dots to the left of the pond.

Are those the birds I'm supposed to count or is that snow?

If they are birds, how do I "count" them?

OK. I just reviewed an image. There wasn't anything there so I clicked that button.

But there's no count anywhere that I did that.

~850 people ran SSS in the last 24 hours. That hardly qualifies as dead.
http://csgrid.org/csg/server_status.php

That's not the issue here.

Then you're missing the context. The OP said:

looks like the whole side is dead!

For the whole side (sic) to be dead, you'd be unable to crunch any tasks, watch videos or classify tweets. And obviously you CAN do ALL of those things but are choosing not to because Travis doesn't jump at your command. There must be a lot of live, active projects that you refuse to run.

And yeah, the image thing is a dead duck so far. Big deal. There's plenty of other stuff to do here. If and when that image thing gets fixed, I'll give it a proper go but I'm not going on strike just because of that.

very sad

Of course you can always classify some tweets or watch some videos. I expect that eventually there might be an app for both of these but without a significant data set to compare against, probably not worth it. So if you want more apps to crunch, help out with the tweets and the videos.

Travis has already said that DNA is waiting for some data sets. That was after school closed down for the summer and we're only September. Sometimes science doesn't run as fast as you'd like...

15) Message boards : News : [subset_sum] android app (Message 6361)
Posted 15 Jul 2016 by Profile Steve Hawker*
Travis should put a sticky MUST READ at the top of this section that explains that the Android code is 4 years old and unless a volunteer works on it there isn't going to be any update or support for newer devices. Newer being Android 5+.

If you're even thinking of criticizing the admins for not getting it together and updating an old app, might I suggest you use that energy and spare time you've got to learn how to code and then update it for the benefit of the community. The source code is already posted earlier in this thread.

20) Message boards : Tweet Discussion : Page not auto-reloading (Message 6236)
Posted 13 May 2016 by Profile Steve Hawker*
Hi.

Same behavior. I think it is a server or profil problem.

I have 80 tweeds classified, 57 were validated. Then I got no longer new tweets automatically. It did not help to switch Browser (IE to Firefox) or Workstation. I received new tweets by reloading the page and classified 120 tweeds more in this way. But but none has been validated.

Any solution?

I'm impressed you managed 120. I can't get to 5 before I get frustrated by the overhead and then give up. Before this happened I could easily manage 250 a day.

Travis is very much aware of the problem and now term is over he might have some time to look at this.

As for the validation, there may be a number of things:
- you landed on the batch of 600 tweets that need 10 classifications each, 3 weeks ago there was a bunch that had just 4 each and I doubt they've increased by much.
- you landed on a virgin batch or a batch that has only been classified by one person and you disagree
- the validator has stopped (again)
- something else

Just before this bug showed up, the validator was running every hour. Now I don't hang around to find out because, yunno, its so painful to classify a few tweets.
