Please Ban Bad Hosts
(Message 7606)
Posted 18 Sep 2018 by mmonnin Interesting, I hadn't noticed the BOINC version. With charityengine users being overall #1 and #1 at CSG, I doubt they will be banned via a min BOINC version update. |

(Message 7598)
Posted 11 Sep 2018 by mmonnin Hi Everyone! I don't see anything wrong the the tasks. JUST BAD HOSTS!!! Please ban them. So, so many bad hosts. Easily at least every other task seems to have an error on it from some 'Anonymous' user that we all know is Gridcoin. https://csgrid.org/csg/forum_thread.php?id=2534 Are the tasks currently in progress going to be uploaded? Right now they are just stuck and it seems like they are just going to be abandoned based off your comment. |

Posted 11 Sep 2018 by mmonnin Hi, mmonnin, No just a regular user. And as a regular user, "There's nothing we can do about it" meaning the user cannot change the memory usage of the app. Your quote of me is out of context. |

Posted 9 Sep 2018 by mmonnin Some tasks just take several days to complete. Even on my 2700x some tasks take 3 days. The scheduler can't predict that. It'll just send you tasks to run for a a day. If you need a task to run then it will send you a task. It won't not send you a task because it may take too long. Its going to send a task to keep a CPU busy. Run times and memory usage are part of each individual project. There's nothing we can do about it. If the run times and memory usage is beyond what you want to run then the project isn't for you. |

Posted 23 Aug 2018 by mmonnin WIldlife is the only sub project at CSG that has had CPU work in quite awhile. BOINC has a wide variety of projects if this is not what you're interested in. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php |

Slow picture loading on estimating snow geese project
(Message 7558)
Posted 23 Jul 2018 by mmonnin Yeah, no response to my other thread about the constant bad hosts that error on every task. So many hosts are all bad causing good work to be reported as bad. Most were Anon and with Gridcoin having such a large user base many of the hosts were prob them. |

Posted 9 Jul 2018 by mmonnin I've had 2 very long tasks become invalid because bad hosts produce nothing but invalid results. Probably 30-40k credit each just wasted. https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=3844485 https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=3842552 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=68534 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=76594 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=68685 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=65811 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=79738 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=68497 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=63831 https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=78977 The list goes on an on. |

Excessive credit?
(Message 7391)
Posted 28 Dec 2017 by mmonnin It is not something that should be open to a vote. He seems to know the basic rules of BOINC. The credit here is quite obviously not in line with other projects. Sure, it is not easy to get all projects exactly matching, there are many reasons why it could never be that way, The premise within BOINC is that the projects should be ROUGHLY the same. As things are right now here, they very clearly are not. There are MANY projects with wildly varying RAC. Some CPU projects a CPU can barely do 10k, another 100k. There is no Rule that RAC has to be equal for all projects. GPUs have an even wider distribution of RAC between projects. Even with RAC being higher at CSG it's not even as heavily supported as some others so RAC is not having a large impact to other projects. Most people understand RAC is different between projects and run what they want no matter the points. Time to join everyone else. |

Posted 23 Nov 2017 by mmonnin I apologize for slow loading on the flights this morning. Our IT staff has been doing some things which I think resulted in this. Looks like things are back up and going thankfully. If I hear any more I'll let you know. Now would be a good time to get anything straightened out. :) Formula BOINC Sprint event is CSG. http://formula-boinc.org/sprint.py?sprint=20&lang=en&year=2017 |

[EXACT MNIST Batch CNN Type] Badges
(Message 7331)
Posted 25 Sep 2017 by mmonnin Is there a page that clearly associates the different applications with the subprojects? I am a returning user from the old (pre-CSG) Wildlife@home, and would like to dedicate my resources to that particular subproject. The DNA@Home app was pretty obvious, but the CNN/EXACT apps are not as much so. Every BOINC project site that uses the standard webpage template has an applications page. https://csgrid.org/csg/apps.php It doesn't say that it is in Wildlife though. |

[wildlife] new app/type version 0.31 and an update
(Message 7237)
Posted 25 Jul 2017 by mmonnin Could the deadline be increased? I allowed for work from CSG from the new app and nearly all the tasks went to high priority and interrupted other work. Some tasks have only about 10 hours before deadline. D/L about 3:45PM, deadline of next morning 1:42AM. They will all complete but I only had 0.5 days of work. Multiple that factor several times or a fixed length. A several hour deadline no matter the length is unrealistic. Just got one with about 9 hours til deadline, just shy of 10PM and it's due at 5am. 32 for 32 interrupted tasks. 27 other tasks started just to be interrupted by other CSG tasks. Edit: It was mentioned about keeping CPU RAC about the same across projects as like a gentleman's code. Same should be applied here. Short deadlines just make tasks jump other projects. |
