21) Message boards : Image and Video Discussion : Serious watching ? (Message 5766)

Just want to "grouse" (beware: pun) a bit about some peoples watching behaviour: ;-)
Typical example of what people see (and not) is video #11546 from the grouses.
There are now six different opinions/event timelines marked, some missed the chick completely, some not (but other times), some only marked the chicken, others did mark it as brooding.
It ended up with that the two times the chick remarkably appears and can be fully seen (as I marked it) are seemingly invalid now...
Probably there are other videos out there with way more worse and inaccurate event markings but since I'm watching again it's a "highlight" for me...

Ok, and here they are:

Quint Bronze badge - 52 weeks (31.449.600 seconds)
Quint Silver badge - 56 weeks (33.868.800 seconds)
Quint Gold badge - 60 weeks (36.288.000 seconds)
Quint Amethyst badge - 64 weeks (38.707.200 seconds)
Quint Turqoise badge - 68 weeks (41.126.400 seconds)
Quint Saphire badge - 72 weeks (43.545.600 seconds)
Quint Jade badge - 76 weeks (45.964.800 seconds)
Quint Emerald badge - 80 weeks (48.384.000 seconds)

Btw: why are the badges on the badge list listed from high to low? It should be the other way. ;-)
Matter of taste I guess...

It's off nest, I would mark it the same.

Really? Is this still the case even with the time zone bug now hopefully fixed?

Well, it could be browser related. While on Chrome it works, on Firefox it doesn't.
At least here on my comp. Maybe something isn't right with my FF config, I also noticed that the player does work entirely different on Chrome than on FF.
I'm changing to Chrome for now.
25) Message boards : Image and Video Discussion : Unable to finish a video (Message 5748)

Hm, well, kinda related to the topic, but probably another problem:
I just finished two videos (one with unknown number and #14723 from the plovers with 8 events) and pressed the finished-button.
It "greyed out", but the comparison page didn't appear.
Can't edit new events also (not needed anyway but every other field is still editable.
Both videos appeared on the review page though, so the server did accept it. Looks like I'm the first one who watched them, but I wonder why the comparison page doesn't show up.
Could be a browser issue, but I'm not sure yet, need to check with another one probably.

Let me know what you think of the new/updated badges!

Looks like there are still some wrong ones.
Gold and bronze volcano are still looking the same to me, also gold and bronze earthquake, gold and bronze tornado, gold and bronze rain clouds and gold and bronze clouds.

As far as I can see we have now two, three watchers which have the highest video watching badge.
If you want, I still have one badge/feather for another row of badges, which would go up to 80 weeks of watching. ;-)

I'm not so sure if this really works. If I click blue parts, no matter which ones, it either only jumps to the end of the video or not at all. This is probably related to the issues mentioned in the other thread by JumpinJohnny.

Possibly I've misunderstood your proposal.

I think you do.
What has my idea to do with copying, when the timeline I want is created directly by myself (in real time) and the events I make during watching?
This should help to find out if there's overlay of (probably the same) events or other timely mistakes.
Of course I know even if there are still mistakes that it can be corrected at the review page but it can help even more at watching.
The rest you mention I'm aware of, and it hasn't something to do with what I'm thinking about (as far as I believe).

Does this reconversion still goes on?
Some of my teal videos are still not watchable on the review page...

I also notice that it didn't make much sense that I could put to use.
I have decided to just ignore it since I didn't get and answer to the 'Part One' of my post about it. HERE> http://csgrid.org/csg/forum_thread.php?id=2111
from three weeks ago.

I see. Speaking of timeline, I wish this unspecified thing could be replaced by a timeline directly created from the events we're doing - if it is possible. Having it only later in the comparison is bad, since it can happen that one may set up wrong events or times which can mess up the timeline. I already had this once, luckily discovered it right before submitting it and corrected it.

The finish button will be available when the time line is entered correct.
Means: every field on your events must be filled with a specific time.
If one is missing it cannot be submitted.
Only two events are still quite overviewable, so this shouldn't be a big problem. But on 20 or more events, when the screen gets filled up, it can be quite chaotic to find the right field.

@Travis: since this bothered me also in some more difficult parts wouldn't it be possible to make the fields colored? Like light green for a correct time and light red if it is empty.
31) Message boards : Image and Video Discussion : What are the blue unspecifieds for? (Message 5707)
Posted 22 Jul 2015 by Profile DoctorNow
Well, I finally have to ask since I'm not seeing any sense in it:
What is the line with the blue events called "unspecified" for?
The numbers/time which is standing below doesn't seem to refer to the timeline in the videos, except for what the mouse popups say when hovering over it.
Also, these times in the mouse popups don't seem to have any reference to the events we are marking and nothing happens, when these "blocks" are marked/doubleklicked in any way.
I know I was over a year gone and probably I overreaded something what this should be for...

I wanted to load a new video but I only get a blank site - with the menu on the top.
Problems with the video load server?

Edit:
Looks like it's working again. If you did something to fix it, Travis, thanx. ;-)

Oops, I missed your answer on this.
Yes, but in terms of what we're doing in terms of both biological analysis and computer vision, it really makes things a lot better on our end if both are marked.

Hm, I wonder how much percentage of the already watched videos you are making invalid with this (late) statement. I'm sure most of us didn't do that like this.
34) Message boards : Image and Video Discussion : What are we looking at? (Message 5696)

That's the same nest location as Michal Kindura already reported here (the thread directly below yours now).
The nest is a bit far away and too hard to see because of the low video quality.
Either skip videos like this or wait until the quality is improved.

Are all tweets checked?

I doubt that. Roughly estimated from the top list there are about 5,600 tweets checked. Server status doesn't include them but I'm sure there are more.
I'm not doing them anyway but currently I don't have problems to get tweets.
But maybe there's a daily limit? ;-)

or only the ones from the blue wing teal that we're re-converting?

Just noticed that only the teals are affected, didn't notice that at first.
The recorded events on them are also zero - I hope the data from them isn't lost?

While we're at it:
I would like to see a sorting feature for the number of recorded events at the review page. Everytime I search for a video with a specific event count I have to go through all the pages to look for them. A sorting would make that a bit easier.

Can you somebody confirm the location of the nest? This is one of the hardest videos I've ever seen. :) I've analyzed this video in VLC and I'm still not sure.

Well, I had two or three of these videos from that place now also and as far as I can tell from my experience I saw no bird there yet because I never could see a remarkable movement.
If the bird really is there - behind the grass probably and some meters away - then it really is the worst camera positioning I've seen here until now... ;-)

The "bad", terrible, pixelated, files are 352 x 240 SCALED to 387 x 263
... that is false scaling and results in a useless video.

I'm not a pro but I know a bit about video converting because I do it myself sometimes.
I've never converted videos into resolutions with odd numbers, simply because it's mostly unusual.
Also, it highly depends on the application and the converting algorithm what result you get, so your assume may be correct, JumpinJohnny.
There are countless converting programs out there, some good, some bad. I wonder what you are using here, Travis.
Another point is the codec.
As far as I know mp4/h.264 is very good in quality and file size. Don't know about ogv though, never used that (yet), I may have to look into that.
Wonder anyway why the field cameras have such a small resolution. There are way better cameras out there which make better videos and they are even not that expensive anymore... ;-)
