Hi Everyone,

You can now specify the lengths of the videos you'd like to watch. You can do this by going to:

Your Name -> Your Preferences

In the navbar, then select "wildlife@home preferences" halfway down the left side of the page.

Then click "edit wildlife@home preferences.

Once there, you should see a "only watch videos between the following lengths." These are in minutes, so you can enter your minimum video length (in minutes) and maximum video length (in minutes). Then when you go to the watch page, it should only display videos within that range.

Second, I've merged the STE\/E and DoA accounts, in part because STE\/E asked me to, and also because having duplicate accounts can really mess with the validation and things along those lines. I think we're going to have a policy written up to prevent duplicate accounts in the future so we can just delete the duplicate; instead of having me go through a whole ton of things to merge their observations so no double credit was awarded, and re-validating videos that could possibly have been validated differently if one of those two accounts didn't have a second observation.

I think from here on out -- if you see anyone with a duplicate account, please let us know so we can delete it (if it's malicious). If it's non malicious I can merge it with the other account, since I have the process down. But we do not want people running multiple accounts.

I've also seen some people having problems with their watched videos page, with things not showing up correctly. If you have any evidence of that please let me know so it can help me track down whatever bug is happening there.

Sorry I've been somewhat missing the last week or so -- I've had a lot of traveling to family weddings and grant proposals to finish which is becoming even harder because of the government shutdown. I'll also be MIA for october 19-26 or so, because I'm flying to Beijing to present the research paper we got published already on WIldlife@Home.

thanks again for all your time and support! I know the last few weeks have been slow going on our side due to the craziness of the academic year. We do have good things coming. Kyle is getting up to speed with the BOINC daemons and work generation, so with luck we'll be sending out new workunits soon.

cheers,
--Travis

Would it be possible to get a checkbox to tick if we want to receive other work if no work in our range is available? e.g., if I selected 20-60 minutes and there are only 5-min videos available, I'd like to receive a 5min one.

Additionally, the default minimum value is currently null instead of 0, meaning that no work is given unless it's manually changed to 0. You should probably fix that ASAP.

Steve's accuracy rating did not come through the merge accurately.

I think it came out fine, I just had to revalidate a bunch of his videos so it took some time to get updated.

works its correctly, set the length of the video? In the morning (when the update was not yet "if there is no work, providing a shorter video) I set 10 minutes and I got 10 minutes.

Now I look at the video 3 minutes long. I thought that long videos are not available, so, i set "5 minutes minimum 60 minutes maximum". However, I get the video duration from 3 to 10 minutes, randomly. Most often 3m.

I am the first, who watch this vids. In case you do not make new videos now, questions is "Why randomly appear a long video and the next is shorter and other next is again longer?"

I would like longer videos if possible.

I don't know why the Accuracy dropped that much since both Accounts were close to each other but I did ask that they be Merged some weeks ago so I have to live with it now that it's done. I've only watched a couple of Video's today waiting for it all to settle in & it's still slowly creeping upwards ... :)

Not sure if the settings are working or not, but I've set mine to min 9, max 60. i have been receiving nothing but 3 minute videos. I'm not sure how video availability is for the longer ones, so perhaps with more people choosing longer videos, there are less to go around.

Or I could be completely off. Is this expected behaviour?

If you set your Setting to 3 to 60 Min Video's then that's what your going to get is any Video's 3 & up to 60 Min's. I tried some setting this morning & if you want a specific length Video to look at then you need to set your settings to 10-10 or 20-20 if 10 Min or 20 Min Video's are only what you want ... Travis will need to have a setting that if those length Video's are not available you can be sent some other length Video's.

Personally I don't really like the 20 Min Video's although I will watch them, the Laptop I look at the Video's on is Wi-Fi & the 20 Min Video's can take some time to completely Download so I really prefer something shorter to look at ...

But I haven't set it to allow 3 minute videos. That's the whole point. I prefer fewer, but longer videos, so I'm trying to get 10+ minute videos. It seems as though today they all completely disappeared. I was getting many longer videos yesterday before this update came out.

Alright, I think I've gone through at least 20-30 videos now. Got two 10 minute videos, but that's it.

Maybe there's some backlog of older videos that require more observation, I don't know. Not sure how it works.

EDIT: Okay, now I'm getting them. I think I just needed to go through the older videos first.

I have a project set up similarly (10m+ for now)

I understand that the units may not be available... I do not understand that the units are added continuously??
Sorry for my bad english, I will try to describe it more simply.

1) I set my Preferences to 5 minutes minimum 60 minutes maximum (for example)
2) I go to the Watch video page and I get the 3min videos.
3) Next (few) video(s) is 3min long too
4) And now i get 20min video !

Why I did not get it the first time? I am the first viewer of video.

Server create units continuously? I thought that the units are created by Travis when are needed.

There might be a bug in how I'm checking to see if these settings haven't been set yet. There's also probably limited 10+ minute videos. Looking into it now.

There was a bug where it wasn't grabbing the min/max times. This has been fixed.

Note, that as it stands it will not give you shorter videos if there are no videos of the specified times. If you guys want this functionality changed let me know.

I Prefer the Project would give me any work if there is none available for what I have my Preferences set to ... Or Possibly drop back to the next longest Video available if that could be done ?

Yeah, I concur. I would rather do non-preferred work than no work at all. I strongly suggest that having it fall back on work that's outside of your preferred range be the default, and if people don't want to do them, they can just, y'know, not do them.
