Hi Everyone!

Sorry about lots of delays in work generation but we've finally started up some new runs. Things have been pretty busy getting settled in here at RIT. We have some interesting work in the pipleline so we're hoping to have a new application out sometime this semester.

cheers,
--Travis

Before you start the new runs, I guessing that you are re-running all the old work units that failed before (some from badly configured hosts and some from faulty wu's), to clean everything up?

I say this as I am still getting work from the old batch, and no new batch is listed on the server.

Although it appears that the work units I am getting are new not old, so don't know where they come from unless the full batch had not been released before you shut off the server.

Thanks
Conan

Hi Conan,

It looks like stragglers came back which resulted in more old WUs going out. Not quite sure what I can do about that given how the BOINC scheduler/feeder works; other than having a long downtime between new runs to make sure everything comes back first. That being said those old WUs can still be useful if they generate some better results for the CNNs I'm training, so it's not wasted work/effort.

It also looks like you're now out of work as the tasks ready to send has been at 0 since this morning.

The bigger issue is that it says I have WU's that I'm crunching but my systems do not have them. They've also had systems issues recently. So maybe they are trying to shore up the backend before they start releasing new WU's. Having an outage every week or two is not all that beneficial to the project.

Also, since this is at a university, they are all on break.

December 20 (Thursday, 10 a.m.) Residence Halls close
Dec. 20 - Jan. 13 Break between Fall and Spring Semesters
December 21 (Friday) Final grades due
December 21 (Friday) University closes at 2 p.m.
Dec. 24 - Jan. 1 University closed

[all] status update

Hi Everyone!

Sorry for a lot of silence on our end -- things have been quite hectic this summer! I accepted a new position and now am at Rochester Institute of Technology and busily getting a new lab set up (and having some students migrate along with me).

I'm going to let some of the work units clear out of the system and set up some new runs which should help fix some of the issues you've been seeing with bad workunits. In the longer term, I've started work on an updated binary which should also allow for the use of GPUs, which should hopefully allow the runs to scale a bit better without running into these problems.

I'll be keeping you posted as that comes along, but right now we're all just trying to get settled in a new place! Thanks again for all your support. The results coming in are definitely interesting ones!

Should be back up now. Sorry about that. I'm going to be turning off work generation for a bit until I have some time to do some updates.
