My wingman for several units are this computer and validation inconclusive. With over 6.6k units I'm sure they are wingman for others around here. All off their tasks complete in just several minutes instead of the hours it takes everyone else.

https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=53268

All but 3 are invalid for them. 3 are listed as valid and two of them look like normal run times. This unit ran for 2min and was validated for 4015 points
https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=1158288

They are completely wasting project resources. How do tasks complete w/o computation error this quickly?

Hi!

I've also noticed this flawed and misbehaving host, pouring out copious amounts of invalids! :-( :-( :-(
I've sent the owner a private message about it a couple of days ago, and yesterday I also sent Travis a note about it.

This computer must have wasted several GIGA-bytes of network comm. and also put an extra burden on the servers - as well as on our patience. I totally agree with you it is a dreadful waste of resources!

Afaik. it is only the owner, and maybe the admins, that can exclude a host from the grid, so I hope Travis or some of the other admins are reading this soon.

Kindest regards,
Gunnar

Cryin' shame the gridcoiners can let these "bad" servers destroy the project and all our hard work.

computer 35268 joined May 26
In progress (30) · Validation pending (2422) · Validation inconclusive (1757) · Valid (3) · Invalid (1456) · Error (971)

All the "pending" are showing work of mere seconds from this computer
This is not the first computer to spew out destructive results here from the Gridcoin group. We should find a way to stop it, however.
Shame to keep sending our work to computers that are slowing the entire project simply because of gridcoin greed.
I will be surprised if the owner takes any action to remedy this.

Hi!

Well, luckily it seems to have stopped now!

The computer hasn't caught any new tasks since 8:39 this morning, and I can see some 20 abandoned tasks in the error list, so I guess it has been taken off line! Hope it stays that way until properly fixed! ;-)

Nice weekend to all of you healthy, hard working crunchers!!! :-D

Good to hear it has stopped. Since it was Gridcoin I didn't bother PMing the user. Maybe your PMs helped. I've tried PMing a MW user once since they were failing every unit causing me to lose some points due to a 3rd user also failing.

I posted here as I figured only an admin or the user could stop this.

I saw Travis asking about these type of users in a BOINC email. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Hi!

Yes, I know that Travis is seeking for a solution. Hope the BOINC Team will come up with one, so we won't be bothered with such crappy hosts anymore.

This computer however is off the grid now. It seems as they did a new try with it this afternoon, but since 13:54 UTC it hasn't got any new tasks! Good that they looking after it properly. :-)

I wonder what is wrong with them, when they go berserk like that?
It seems it can happen to quite different CPUs: This one was an old Pentium-4, but the one before (hostID 53268) was a Xeon E5335.

Could it be overclocking?
Is there somebody who knows more about this?

got a couple more:
https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=53248
https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=44136
and let's certainly not forget https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=51043 (owned by grcpool.com) that has 1051 invalid tasks plus 767 pending and not a single valid task .. not one.

Between them they have invalided https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=1227811 and I would not be surprised if more are coming.

Hi People,

Will try and have a fix on this tonight/tomorrow. Sorry about being slow -- I was traveling the last two weeks with little internet connectivity (was on a much needed 10 day meditation retreat).

...and relax... :-)

I'm surprised I only have two invalid at the moment, do they get cleaned out just like valid results ?

This one https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=1308185
Was ruined by these...
https://csgrid.org/csg/show_host_detail.php?hostid=55248 It has: 1 Valid, 530 Error with 4 In progress - not hopeful !
https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=55776 - Only did 4 tasks and all failed, not doing any more though !
not forgetting https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=51043 (owned by grcpool.com) now upto 1370 invalid tasks with 324 pending and still not a single valid task

This WU has given up https://csgrid.org/csg/workunit.php?wuid=1268474
managed 1 Abort, 2 Timed Out and the usual from this host https://csgrid.org/csg/results.php?hostid=53593

Just an update -- having some discussion on the message boards as to the best way to deal with this issue. Hopefully we'll have a BOINC update sometime soon.

How are these actually completing so fast? They should take hours and they are being completed in one minute. One computer is a Pentium 4 1.7GHz. That's a slow AF computer in today's standard.
