The nesting videos are now available as bossa jobs.

I made some changes, which should hopefully make this a bit better. For each possible field of a video (bird presence, predation, nest defense, nest success) now there's three options: yes, no and unsure.

If you're not sure if one of these occurs (it can be very difficult to tell if a bird is nesting or not in some of the video) then you can mark unsure. This way, you won't get marked with an invalid result (and not get credit) for videos you're not sure of.

Since there are for options, credit will be awarded as (sure / 4.0) * duration -- where sure is the number of non-unsure responses you had that successfully validated against your wingmen.

So if you're sure of 3 aspects, and unsure on the fourth, you can get 75% of the credit (as opposed to potentially being wrong on the last aspect and not getting any credit at all).

Hope this makes sense, if you have any suggestions or improvements let me know!

Huh? How much videos are these now?
I watched a lot yesterday evening and no change in credits yet, looks like there's not even a change to others.
Oh man, it's really really, really hard to say sometimes if a bird is in the video or not when they are not moving at least a bit, there is mostly too much grass around...
And what bothers me a little: why does none of the videos have any audio? It would be probably a bit easier when there is something to hear. Even if I'm no bird expert I don't think they are completely silent the whole time while nesting.

Another thing, probably a bug:
I accidentally forgot at one video to make any mark. This resulted in a "missing parameters"-message which is probably correct.
But refreshing the page then resulted in the message "You already watched this video". Since it had no marks this can't be correct, it should have give me the video again to watch.
Therefore a suggestion: try to bind clicking the submit-button with the marked options. It makes no sense when the button is available after 3 minutes and absolutely nothing is marked.

Right now I added 16000 3 minute video segments (and there are more coming), we got a whole lot more coming too (working on converting to a format that we can stream).

I watched a lot yesterday evening and no change in credits yet, looks like there's not even a change to others

I'm looking into this right now, basically since the videos are being shown somewhat random it doesn't seem like the server is doing a good job of sending an already viewed video to another person for validation. It also looks like you and me are the only ones watching much video at the moment so that's going to account for slow validation as well. Hopefully it will get better as we get more users. Also, Susan is going to have some of her students in her classes using the website as well, so that will help the video get classified faster.

Oh man, it's really really, really hard to say sometimes if a bird is in the video or not when they are not moving at least a bit, there is mostly too much grass around...

Working on this as well! Susan and her students are making some webpages and information to help classify if birds are there or not, so I hope that we'll have some good information about that soon.

And what bothers me a little: why does none of the videos have any audio? It would be probably a bit easier when there is something to hear. Even if I'm no bird expert I don't think they are completely silent the whole time while nesting.

The problem here I think is space, audio takes up even more room (and we're already using terabytes and terabytes of data to hold the video). The other issue is that the cameras need to be as small and non-intrusive as possible so Susan can get good information back on the birds. If the cameras stand out too much predators are actually smart enough to figure out that if they see something weird like that there's food nearby.

Another thing, probably a bug:
I accidentally forgot at one video to make any mark. This resulted in a "missing parameters"-message which is probably correct.

That is a bug -- we were just talking about that in a meeting today. Hope to have that fixed soon!

Really? Nothing is showing up? Everything seems to be working on my end... is it taking you to a webpage (and there are issues with the video showing up correctly) or just showing that there are no jobs available?

It's working for me. Just submitted one. One thing I noticed was the submit button was available after 2m30s.

Have you tried going back to the main page, reclicking on:

http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/wildlife/bossa_apps.php

then on get job?

Going to forward this on to the bossa developers and see if it's some kind of bug.

Since a couple of days I'm only getting

missing or bad parameter: bird_presence

when I try to submit a completed job.

There were some issues with this yesterday but it should be working now. Are you still having problems?

What web browser are you using, so I can try and debug it if you're still having problems?

Strange. I just tested it on firefox, safari and chrome in both windows and OSX and the submit button is working... maybe clear your browser cache? It might have the old broken version of the page cached, and isn't using the new working one.

I'm using Firefox 20, submit-Button is working fine here (win 7, 64bit).

Even better : fast forward/backward buttons are working now too.

Good news. :) Looks like Firefox finally implemented the Javascript for that.

I found one small bug: on each new video the speed is reset to 1, but the textbox still shows the value used for the previous video.
