I've finished the page to list videos you've already watched, check it out here:

http://volunteer.cs.und.edu/wildlife/user_video_list.php

Let me know if you have any suggestions! I'm hoping to get the reporting working tomorrow.

Message 771 - Posted: 28 Jul 2013, 5:05:38 UTC - in response to Message 770.

I've noticed a whole lot of videos that say my marking was INVALID when it was the CANONICAL/VALID marking that was wrong. Will the reporting allow that to be fixed?

(On the other hand, I really wonder what must have been going through my head when I see what I marked for some videos - ouch!).

Thank you for putting in the effort to make this whole process better.

I think I've found a glitch of some kind. I can't pull up any videos for viewing - the page never loads.

I can navigate elsewhere throughout the site with no difficulty; it is only the page to actually watch a video that won't load.

It's due to the database update I'm running right now. Should be available when that's finished.

Same here, I'll watch a Video with just egg's showing & no Parent Present then I'll go ahead & Mark it as a parent being Present & Submit, D'oh ... With you being the 1'st it seems to watch most of the Videos you don't realize some of your Mistakes, with me being 2'nd on a lot of them I have the benefit of seeing my submission doesn't match yours.

So what I've been doing on my mis-marks is going back & re-watching the Video to see if you or me are right and re-sumbitting with the Correct Marks if appropriate, so what I see then is You Lemon STE\/E as the submitter's with You (Me) & Lemon getting the 180 Credit. I hope that's appropriate & doesn't mess anything up in the Database ???

I had one I think where I seen a Chick but you had it marked as No (Chick Present) so I watched it again to make sure I seen a Chick, I did see the Chick so I Submitted again as Yes (Chick Present) again I hope that doesn't mess anything up in the Data Base ???

Let me know if you have any suggestions! I'm hoping to get the reporting working tomorrow.

Some suggestions:

1) The numbers indicating video range currently go 0..5 5..10 10..15 etc. They should go 1..5 6..10 11..15 etc.

2) It would be nice to limit the videos displayed to a particular viewing area, such as Plover, Tern, or Lostwood grouse.

3) There needs to be a mechanism to quickly get to a particular video range, such as 1301..1305. Currently, with 20 videos displayed, I can only go from 0..20 to 180..200. In steps that small, it would take a while to get to video 8000.

4) You might have this already planned, but there needs to be a way to identify which videos I have already reported. Perhaps the Report button could become inactive - until the video has been reviewed (so that if I disagree with the review, I can report the video again).

EDIT: 5) Perhaps there could be a way to indicate what the correct markings of the video should be when it gets reported. For most cases, that wouldn't be necessary, but I've seen some videos where it doesn't appear that anyone got it correct.

Now that there is an overview it's really cool to have all the wrong videos back, especially the early ones.

The page doesn't show a way to mark the videos in another way and it isn't supposed to currently recorrect it since reporting isn't possible. Don't try to fool the database in a strange way since it could be called as cheating also...

True, but since the videos aren't in a particular order it's quite useless to go to video 7000 since you don't know what could be there anyway.
So I would suggest some sort options like date, time etc. That way one might find a particular video a bit easier if you know what you are searching for.

The videos may not be in a particular order, but they do appear to be in a fixed order that does not change. So if I've gone through a whole mess of videos, I'd like to be able to quickly get to where I left off the next time I return to the page.

I like the search idea though. Also, it would be useful to be able to identify particular combinations of video markings (Parent Present = Yes, Parent Absent = No, Chicks Present = Yes).

If Travis doesn't want me to do that then I'll stop doing it, I remember Travis himself saying there was a way to Edit/Correct your own Videos & I may have just stumbled on the way to do it. Let me know Travis either here or by PM & I'll abide by your decision ...

Ah I see now, looks like I misinterpreted it earlier. I guess you only referring to the "discuss/going back per browser"-issue here. Travis never told another way of correcting videos as far as I know (not in the forum), and this particular way of "cheating" was found out by me anyway in an early stage of the project, but I used it very rarely.
Since it is known that the validator is in a messed up-state I'm not using it anymore, because it really can do some havoc if you're not careful enough.

I'm fairly certain Travis thought he had fixed that particular method of "correcting" mistakes. I guess he didn't if it is still available.

I'm not sure if it can be fixed anyway. It's a browser cache issue and just shows you what you had on the previous page including the whole video.
Only way to stop it would be blocking the video that the same user can't vote it twice.

There shouldn't be any way to edit/correct your own videos at the moment. What this page does is let you see your own responses and responses of others for videos you've watched; and then if you think anything is wrong you can hit the report observations button so Susan and her students can go over that video and figure out what really did happen.

If there is some way for you to edit/correct your own videos I'd like to know, because I'd rather not have that be possible at this moment and it means there's a bug somewhere that needs to be fixed.

Right now if somehow you go back to a video you've already entered an observation for and hit submit, it will replace your previous observation. I've tried to for a reload when going to the page, even it hitting back, but it seems like some browsers aren't supporting that.

There was a bug saying you'd be granted credit for the update of the observation (if it validated), but you'd actually get no credit for it. I've fixed the display so now it should properly say you get 0 credit if this does happen.

I was thinking so too, I can do that.

What I have planned is once a video is reported, the report video button will change indicating that it's been reported and pending our review. After we've watched that video, the button will change again saying that we've reviewed the video and made a decision about what really happened in it.

I'll have another page that'll show all the reported videos and our responses to them, which should really help people learn how to correctly classify the videos. I'll also make it so you'll have an option to filter your video list by videos you've reported.

I like the search idea though. Also, it would be useful to be able to identify particular combinations of video markings (Parent Present = Yes, Parent Absent = No, Chicks Present = Yes).

That should be do-able too! I was thinking about that as well.

Right now if somehow you go back to a video you've already entered an observation for and hit submit, it will replace your previous observation.

Well if it would be a replace then the validation screen wouldn't come up like "You / Lemon / DoctorNow", it should then look like "You / Lemon", right?
I've done it on purpose right now but it still comes up like this.

I've tried to for a reload when going to the page, even it hitting back, but it seems like some browsers aren't supporting that.

Firefox 22 here, still works the same way after some version updates...

There was a bug saying you'd be granted credit for the update of the observation (if it validated), but you'd actually get no credit for it. I've fixed the display so now it should properly say you get 0 credit if this does happen.

Hm, that is quite interesting. I've never checked (though I didn't really used it much) if this way of correcting your own videos got credits, even as it says "you got 180 credits" before, so actually it would be cheating yourself when you correct them. :-)
Edit:
But isn't this then a bug also, even when you "correct" your video like that, it "validates" but no one gets credits?

I've added a go to button and text box, so you can jump to videos.
