Any news on when the badges will go live? ;-)

Gonna try and get the badges live today, once the last of the validation issues are ironed out. :)

Will you be putting each users badge(s) in their account profile as most other projects do?

Thanks

Steve

Please do this ASAP, not being able to see badges or even video credit on user profiles is very inconvenient. Should have been working with the same update badges were implemented.

Please be prepared to put up with a bit of inconvenience then. There are many other higher priority items that I sincerely hope Travis gets around to first.

While it may be low priority, it should also be very very easy to implement, compared to what I assume is on the TODO list. Considering that the badge system is a great way of attracting new users, and those users aren't likely to stick around if they can't actually see their progress, I definitely feel that it'd be beneficial to the project for that process to be made easier.

Well, I also wondered that Travis hasn't included the account/profile display at the same time, but since you guys are crying for it I'm sure he will come up with it as fast as he can. ;-)

Personally I don't mind it a huge amount, as I can just refresh the forums to see my progress, and compare it to the badges thread, but a lot of the people who will be signing up over the next few days because there's badges won't know that, and not having an easy way for them to see their progress could risk the loss of potential work.

Perhaps it should be pointed out that one's personal progress can now be seen on the Watched Videos page under the Your Account tab, while the Bossa credit leaderboard can be seen by navigating to the Top Bird Watchers list under the Project Information tab.

Having that mentioned in a banner at the top of watch.php would definitely be a passable solution in the meantime, but really, that shouldn't be much less effort than just including the badges on the profiles as standard.

EDIT: It'd also be nice to have your current credit count on watch.php, for that matter.

Both done.

I'm going to redesign the leaderboards, so they should have credit/accuracy/badges/etc in them as well. That'll take a little longer though.

I know it probably is a bit inappropriate and mean since it would be a little work for you to change everything, Travis, so I'm very sorry to this in advance. ;-)
It depends anyway on the choice what everyone thinks of it and if they want it.
Since the bossa credits are the same as seconds I would like to redefine the rankings a bit (along with the new continued badges) like below, because it would fit to time ranges better (the current ones are very odd according to this of course). Don't know why I've not thought about that before. ;-)
Maybe you like these ones better, they're also a bit lower now than the original ones.
I listed them like before (the hours in brackets gave me a little hint for making the new ranking). Then, the last bold marked numbers are the ones I think how they should be in the future. You maybe can use the hour/day/week list later for a special badge displaying page.
I'm open for discussion if it should be changed to that or not.
If you still like it the old way then there would be no big change, I continued the old ranking also as you can see.
So here they are:

------------- Old ranking ------------------ New ranking
- Bronze 10k (2.7 hours) - 2h (7,200 seconds)
- Silver 50k (13.88h) - 12h (43,200s)
- Gold 100k (27.77h) - 24h/1day (86,400s)
- Amethyst 250k (69.44h) - 48h/2days (172,800s)
- Turquoise 500k (138.88h) - 72h/3d (259,200s)
- Saphire 1M (275.66h) - 96h/4d (345,600s)
- Jade 1,5M (416.66h) - 120h/5d (432,000s)
- Emerald 2M (551.22h) - 144h/6d (518,400s)

- Double Bronze 2,5M (694.44h) - 168h/7d/1 week (604,800s)
- Double Silver 3M (833.33h) - 336h/14d/2 weeks (1,209,600s)

- Quad Emerald 37,5M - 8,064h/346d/48w (29,030,400s)

One feather shape still remains, but that should be enough for a while I guess. ;-)

Edit:
Accuracy badges will follow in some days, unfortunately will take a while until I've made something usable. ;-)

I agree with you. This way I have much more "feeling" for the credits I've reached. I reminds me of WCG where the credits are also displayed in years of computation. Doctor, nice work! I really have respect for your contributions here.

Very nice, Doctor! I'm working on a couple other things at the moment (adding video for 2013!) but I'll try and get them updated ASAP. :) I like having them tied to time.

I don't know how you came up with the figure's but some seem to be way out of line though but like I said I don't know how you figured things.

For people who are interested how: Look at the hour numbers in brackets on the old ranking and then to the numbers of the new ranking. This gave me a clue how to start.
Then you can see I used days/weeks per badge level, for the doubled a week, for the triples two weeks etc.

These 2 are definitly not figured right though for sure: Good job on the Feathers though ... :)

- Double Saphire 7M - 1,008h/42d/6w (4,233,600s)
- Double Jade 8M - 1,176h/49d/7w (4,233,600s)

Oups, yes, looks like I made some Copy&Paste mistakes here while writing the post. Should have controlled it again before posting, I see Double Turquoise 6M is already incorrect and has the value of 7M.
Since you have already set them up I hope you have corrected them during that, Travis...

Yeah, I actually used math to do the credit levels: ie. 4 * 7 * 24 * 60 * 60 = 4 weeks of seconds, etc. :)

Sorry that it took so long guys, finally I've finished some accuracy badges and we can start discussing it.
I made a few examples first to see how they look. The different colours are planned for several rankings like Defender suggested earlier.
However, I would not going to make them for every feather level - that would be too much work - I only will make them for some levels which I've not yet chosen.
So here are they:

Personally, I'm not very satisfied with the result anyway (only the last one is really identifiable as crosshair, but the text is simply too small on all of them) - but I don't have any other idea for a badge, so I wouldn't mind if we decide for not using accuracy badges.

Hmmm, it's a good start, but I don't know about crosshairs. Although Susan and some of her students are avid hunters, some others might not like that!

I was thinking eyes or something along those lines... Another person suggested some kind of emblem that I could put around the current badge (maybe just shiny concentric metallic circles --> copper silver gold). That could be interesting.

I was thinking eyes or something along those lines... Another person suggested some kind of emblem that I could put around the current badge (maybe just shiny concentric metallic circles --> copper silver gold). That could be interesting.

Eyes? Hm, I'm not sure if I can make something with that but I will try it.
And an emblem around the feathers? Well, that would be a bit "huge" and probably not appropriate here for the forum. Anything bigger than the current ones might not look very good IMO.

So here are they:

Whatever Badges the Project comes up with I'd like to see a Badge for each Step over 90% ergo 90-91-92-93-94-95-96--97-98-99-100

I suspect the only people that you will see @ 100% are ones that are new to the Project & they hand pick a few Videos to insure their right & then stop watching them to keep that status. Maybe there should be a minimum of Video's watched to even qualify for a Badge ? and or a Minimum of Video's watched Per week/Month to keep a % Badge ? Just random thoughts, there should be some effort put into the % Badge though I think & an attempt to try to Improve yourself % wise ... Not just watching a few Video's @ then sitting back enjoying your 100% Badge ...
