Message 575 - Posted: 6 Jul 2013, 18:12:23 UTC - in response to Message 574.

I'm in favour of the second one. What's the long term expected scale of this project, is 50 billion BOINC credits for the top cruncher a feasible possibility? Is 1 billion?

If we run into that problem later, perhaps we could do a third shape for the badges.

Also I like the look of the paired colours more.

Thanks for putting the time into making these.

Even with a GPU Application you wouldn't see 50 Billion for many years to come, 1 Billion would be doable with a CPU Application but will take quite a while too especially if there's on again off again Wu's availability ... Getting a Windows Application would help too, I had 6 Linux Box's but am down to 1 now, I can switch back to Linux but prefer not to as Linux is way to finicky & I loss a lot of Wu's to errors on Linux that I don't lose with Windows ...

...

Was an example anyway since I "borrowed" the rankings from PrimeGrid, of course it could have been other values also.
Looks like it's decided, we take the bi-coloured ones (though there were only two votes in total) - and here's the limit 500 M anyway.
If nobody has any objections anymore: Travis, you can put them online then. ;-)

I'm not sure anymore if it makes sense to make (feather) badges for the bossa credits, since I don't know where Travis would/could put them except in the own account informations (it was already requested to have the bossa credits there but they're still not up). Is it possible to include badges in the top bossa list? And how big could they be then?

Hi Everyone,

I'm going on a camping trip this coming week, and then driving back to grand forks from NY. So when I get back next wednesday I'll start on getting the badges working. :)

I was thinking that the badges would show up by your name/information on the side of the forum posts. We could probably also get them on the top bossa users page as well. I think some other projects have done some facebook integration as well -- I'm not sure how I feel about that or if it's worth the effort though. :P

'kay, that's all I need to know. ;-)
Forget Facebunch, no one needs that. ;-D

So, I created the first pack of feathers now. Let me know what you think. ;-)

- Bronze 100k
- Silver 200k
- Gold 500k
- Amethyst 1M
- Turquoise 2M
- Saphire 5M
- Jade 10M
- Emerald 20M

They are 32x40 now and actually on the same colour levels like the cpu badges, I mostly only worked with "single hue" here. I had to let ruby out, it didn't look very good because the details disappeared and it was too "brash". Don't know what you think, maybe Saphire & Jade are also a bit too dark.
Actually I think ranking should be the same as on the cpu side (I noticed that I misnoted Bronze and silver earlier, they should be changed to this here), but if someone has a better idea convince me... ;-)
Other feather shapes for the higher ranking will follow.

They look good to me ... Personally I think the Levels for the BOSSA Badges should Either be lower or the Credit's Higher, getting to 500k has to about the most Boring thing I've ever done in my Life. I can't imagine getting to 10 or 20 Million watching Videos of Birds doing nothing ... My Grass Grows faster than these Birds move ... lol

The feathers look good as well as the other badges you've designed. I like the double colored badges more.

Obviously some people have no Lives with the amount of Bossa Credits they've piled up already or they've found a way to fool the system.

Sometimes I'm watching a lot of the videos during boring telcos...
Using chrome as a browser you can speed up the video by factor 9! A lot of videos are to dark or corrupt. Easy earning of credits too.

Looks like someone else has no life either now... You've almost catched up to me and that in this short time. ;-)
Did you watched grouse videos only? In the other ones is more action sometimes - especially the terns, but they're completed now.

Yeah, I think that decides it way more that we take 'em.

With too fast watching you can lose details. I already discovered this with some of mine and then I wondered why the others did chose other options.
And vice versa: since I'm watching a bit slower now I have already seen things other people missed.

Factor 9 is imho a bit too fast, except for the dark ones.
But the factor 5 available for foxes is quite OK. If I see something "fishy", I go back there an watch again in normal speed.

And regarding the badges:
They are fine, and I agree with the lower levels for bossa, because it's imho more demanding then just letting your machine do something.

Okay, guys, if you want other levels for the bossas then make suggestions, I merely took the PG ones because I found it best. ;-)
I still have 4 other feather shapes to extend it, so with 5 x 8 colours there are 40 (!) rankings possible.

I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both Hands, I had to give up Gaming years ago because of it. My hands go Numb even just typing, so it really pains me to have to do all the Clicking Yes or No for each Video watched. So possibly the below Levels would be better for the BOSSA Badges, you have to actually sit there for Hr's sometimes watching the Videos to get any amount of Videos watched instead of setting & forgetting a Computer like when running the Wu's so the Badge Levels should be Lower ...

Possibly: These are just a suggestion, others can chime in if they think it's to Low for the BOSSA Badges ...

- Bronze 50k
- Silver 100k
- Gold 250k
- Amethyst 500k
- Turquoise 1M
- Sapphire 2.5M
- Jade 5M
- Emerald 10M

I'm actually wondering that you're doing this to yourself then.
I also had CTS earlier in my life (but probably a lighter kind) for a bit more than a year in my work hand (the right one) and meanwhile I hated to do work on computers - even though it wasn't that bad but the longer the worse it got - so I limited it to a minimum. And sometime it finally got away - was a relief.

Ok, good, at least one made a nice suggestion now. ;-)
I take that and make it a bit finer with the introduction of some higher ones, which I've finished yesterday evening:

- Bronze 50k
- Silver 100k
- Gold 250k
- Amethyst 500k
- Turquoise 750k
- Sapphire 1M
- Jade 2M
- Emerald 4M
- Double Bronze 6M
- Double Silver 8M
- Double Gold 10M
- Double Amethyst 12,5M
- Double Turquoise 15M
- Double Saphire 17,5M
- Double Jade 20M
- Double Emerald 25M

This probably will be enough for a while, even Lemon would need some time to reach that. ;-)
Actally I had the plan, that every new feather shows in another direction.

Anything for a Badge ;) ... I like the 750k then 1 Mil, was thinking that myself but thought it might be too low but go with it ...

Below 1M it is fine and gives a good motivation for new participants to gain some badges.
If new participants watched videos to reach credit 1M lot of videos have been watched and good support to the project was given.
Above 1M it is hard to reach next badge.
I suggest having 500k/750k steps from 1M.
Sure some more badges are needed (triple feather? or feather pointing to diferrent direction or ...) but it helps to stay motivated to watch more videos.
Sometimes it is really pain to watch this amount of video.

Just my 2 cents

Actually I think 750k would give some "odd" milestones, I prefer 500k. And a little increase after some time is only natural and should be allowed.
What do you think about this then:
- Sapphire 1M
- Jade 1,5M
- Emerald 2M
- Double Bronze 2,5M
- Double Silver 3M
- Double Gold 4M
- Double Amethyst 5M
- Double Turquoise 6M
- Double Saphire 8M
- Double Jade 10M
- Double Emerald 12M

And then continued with a new feather, which I have to make though.

Your suggestion looks fine.
I'm with you that an increment between the credits for batches is natural and ok.
But it makes a difference if you let you computer crunch work units or if a human has to watch tons of videos.
To go from 6M to 8M you have to watch 11,111 videos (180 credits each). This means ~556 hrs of watching nonstop. That's really tough.
But you should give it a try.
